A bit of straight info on the Border League

On this website you will find a collection of photos from the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002 seasons of Renaissance Fairs in which the Border League participated. Nineteen-ninety-eight was our first season as a unit and we thank the promoters and guilds who made us welcome. We have been involved in parades, Royal glade stops, battle pageants, meet & greets, and community-sponsored educational activities. We have featured in-camp spinning, weaving, knitting, tatting, cross-stitch, chain mail fabrication, leather working, music, and swordplay demonstrations accompanied by a sharing of historical information in a hospitable venue unemcumbered by walls or barricades. We belive that we have established the Border League as a known quantity composed of mature, educated, professional performers.

At the time of this writing in 2002, we have around 30 members in the Guilde, ranging in age from babes-in-arms to middle 50s. I have been asked if we are "recruiting". In the sense that we are friendly people with diverse personal histories and private lives we would be foolish to reject a potential volunteer. Our dues are a reasonable $25 per year. But more important is the individual contributions to the scope and continuation of the group. These cannot be measured in dollars. Several times a day during each event everyone has something to do for the event's betterment. Responsible use of the land and environment, help to the event's promoter/organizer, and development of the customers' interest in the Celtic heritage are our ongoing jobs. We are financially supported by our members and by compensation by event promoters. Under no circumstances do we seek payment beyond reasonable expenses. Individual costumes, props, weapons, pavilions, etc., are provided by each member. No profit is expected at the end of a season. No member is exempt from responsibilites.
